The Trojan War has been told and retold for centuries, over and over, from the Iliad to the present day. But this is not the story of The Trojan War.
En mitad de tanto fuego tells the story of Patroclus, “the one most beloved by Achilles”. This is the story of the flesh that, before dying, loved.
Alberto Conejero, a renowned and multi-award-winning Spanish playwright, summons –among many others– the voices of Sappho, Lorca, and Lemebel in this intimate and singular approach to the Iliad, which sets against the soldier the insatiable lover; against the war heroes, a lineage of misfits; and against hymns and swords, a desperate joy and the possibility of imagining a future of matrias governed by amazons and queers.
En mitad de tanto fuego is a song of love in a world scarred by war, a manifesto in praise of desire and dissidence.
